Geography

At All Saints, we believe that Geography helps to provoke and answer questions about the natural and human world, encouraging children to develop a greater understanding of their place and responsibilities within it.

Geography helps children to develop a range of investigative and problem-solving skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas and which can be used to promote children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, whilst also feeding their natural curiosity.

Through the geography curriculum delivered at All Saints we strive to motive and inspire children by providing enquiry based learning opportunities. Through careful consideration of Learning Journey questions and case studies children have the opportunity to develop their geographical knowledge, problem solving skills and mastery of concepts.

Our children will have opportunities to explore geography in action (completing fieldwork trips in every year group). We aim for our children to develop a greater understanding of their immediate locality as well as an understanding of our diverse world. We aim to ensure that children are prepared for secondary education in the key areas of Location Knowledge, Place Knowledge, Human and Physical Geography, and Geographical skills and Fieldwork (as set out by the national curriculum).

Our children will not only be equipped with key knowledge and skills, but also with a sense of awareness of themselves, as people, within a wider world and the impact that they can have upon the world in which they live- today and in the future.

Excursions

At All Saints, we go on two fantastic, fun-filled residential trips in Year 4 and in Year 6. Year 4 pupils go to Minstead and learn all about sustainably, recycling and complete a river study. Year 6 go to the Isle of Wight and learn all about coastal erosion. They visit The Needles, Freshwater Bay and complete orienteering tasks whilst there. They are two unforgettable excursions that embed essential key geographical skills and knowledge as well the enjoyment of learning geography in the children.
